The first aero jersey project was called split second When Castelli engineered the first aero jersey for road racing back in 2006, everyone thought we were crazy. Back then, aero was only for tts. Performance clothing meant moisture management. And you could win the tour de france with a baggy jersey that was little more than a polyester t-shirt. Even our aerodynamic consultants expected limited gains, so we named the jersey split second, though, like now, we thought even small gains were worth pursuing. In the end the gains were pretty substantial, and we completely revolutionized the look of the pro peloton. We're now on the sixth major revision of our aero jersey. Each generation has become more aero and better fitting. The aero race w jersey benefits heavily from cfd analysis of wake flow in the riding position for fabric and seam placement. It also benefits from pro riders' feedback, as we've worked to make the jersey comfortable for their long hours of training and then racing in every possible weather condition. it's our most aero and most comfortable aero race jersey yet. It uses a brand-new fabric that lets us cross-dye it to give a richer depth of color to the shoulders and sides on an otherwise solid-colored jersey. Since it's made for long rides, we've added a zippered pocket to keep your valuables safe. We made this jersey specifically for hot weather, with a meshy fabric on the front that allows a lot of air to flow through the fabric to cool you, while on the back we've created a fabric that blocks over 90% of UV rays while also being airy and lightweight. But don't think of it as a niche jersey that you only bring out for hot days. Innovative evolution The Free Aero RC Bibshort is our top race short, which also means that it's insanely comfortable even if you never pin on a number. It's fair to say that we've been working on this short for the past 15 years. That's how long it's been since the original free aero race bibshort was first introduced, initially as our top-of-the-line race short. Since then it has won three Tours de France, three Gri d'Italia, one Vuelta, and San Remo, but it also became the best-selling product in the history of Castelli because, simply put, this is the short that does everything well. The concept is quite simple: start with the best pad we know how to make, surround it with a supportive short with good muscle compression, and then remove everything else that's not absolutely necessary. You feel free thanks to the reduced number of panels and the reduced number of seams. In fact, the short portion has just 5 panels compared to 10 in the previous generation. You feel free because of further refinements to the Progetto X2 air seamless seat pad. The two densities of foam plus the gel pads provide progressive damping, while the separate skincare layer is soft and stretchy to move with your skin. You feel free thanks to the most minimal bibs you've ever seen in a short, including open-weave straps for maximum airflow. But we reinforced the yoke so the straps stay in place and made the mesh back narrow for coverage that is minimal yet just enough to hold the shorts in place. And the bib elegantly frames a convenient pocket at the center back.
